Australia has banned uranium sales to India as Kevin Rudd’s government fulfils its election promise. Labor has reversed the former John Howard’s government policy because India is not signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
Superficially this sounds great in a liberal “we are the world” way. In reality this means Australia cannot sell uranium to democratic India which is non-signatory, but it can sell to such signatories as China, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Zimbabwe and even Iran. In fact Australia is already selling uranium to totalitarian China that has appalling human rights record and repeatedly threatened its neighbour Taiwan.
Welcome to the world of Labor where you can torture your own people, threaten your neighbours and still by uranium from us as long as your sign a document that in Iran’s example can be safely ignored.
